Pupil Premium
The pupil premium was introduced by the government in April 2011. It was designed to give additional money to support schools in raising the attainment of children The premium is used to support students who are currently on Free School Meals (FSM) or has been registered for (FSM) in the past six years, students in care, who have been looked after by local authorities for more than six months also continue to qualify for the Pupil Premium.
Which pupils qualify for free school meals?
Your child may be eligible for free school meals if you receive any of the following:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (as long as you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on
- Universal Credit
Schools are free to spend this funding in any way they see fit. However, we are accountable as to how the additional funding has been used to support pupils from low income families. At BPA, we have always worked hard to support every child as effectively as we can by offering them as many opportunities as we can in order to accelerate their progress.
