The School Day

Starting times and finishing times and what to do if you’re late

Doors open at 8.50am

School finishes at 3.10pm for Key Stage 1 & Early Years and 3.20pm for Key Stage 2.

We ask that children arrive promptly and our external doors open at 8.50am for the children to get into school in a calm and orderly manner ready to start another exciting day. The doors close at 9.00am and children arriving after this time must be brought to the office (using the front door) by their grown up.

Dinner time

Key Stage One is 11.45 – 12.30pm
Key Stage Two is 12.30 – 1.15pm

We do not authorise holidays during term time as we believe that every day counts in the children’s learning journey.

Any unauthorised absences are recorded in school registers and reported on our termly attendance reports. Unauthorised holidays are always monitored and fines are issued where appropriate.

Our registers are monitored by the Attendance & Pupil Support Officer (APSO) and attendance below 90% will be investigated.
It is really important that medical appointments are kept to after school times but we do appreciate that this is not always easy to organise.

If you are likely to be unavoidably late collecting your child at the end of the day it is vital that you call us to let us know what arrangements you have put in place for collecting your child. If you do not contact us by 3.30pm we will take your child to our after school club and you may be charged. We may also call social services who will take over the care of your child from us.

What to do if your child is ill

If your child is unable to attend school please inform us before 9.30am either by telephone or e-mail (birstall@focus-trust.co.uk) If we do not receive any information we will telephone you to find out why your child is absent.

What if your child is ill at school

Please keep your child at home if they are not well. Although we do the best we can, there is no comfortable place for children to rest if they do not feel well. If your child is ill we will contact you by phone and ask you to collect your child.

Cuts and grazes resulting from falls at playtime are dealt with by First Aid staff in school, but if hospital treatment should be thought necessary we will contact you immediately. If your child bumps their head, we will send you a note to let you know about the incident,

Please keep us informed of

  • change of address
  • work
  • working hours
  • telephone numbers
  • contacts

If we are unable to contact you, staff can act in loco parentis and will contact Social Services for their help and support, if required.
