The internet is an integral part of young people’s everyday lives. But while digital technology provides a wealth of opportunities, we are all aware that there are online risks and sometimes these risks can lead to harm.
At Birstall Primary Academy we understand that Online Safety is about enabling our school community to benefit as much as possible from the opportunities that the internet and other everyday technologies provide whilst ensuring that everyone has the chance to develop a set of safe behaviours that lead to reduced risks from using such technologies.
There are a number of steps we take to keep children safe online:
- We teach online safety skills throughout the curriculum and aim to foster an environment where children can ‘talk and tell.’ We provide children with information of where they can seek help if it is needed.
- We teach the majority our computing curriculum through a secure website that we pay for a license to use.
- Our web browsers have safeguards in place to block inappropriate content.
- Our iPads are monitored and controlled by a central mobile device management system.
